Vegan Raw Cacao Mood Boosting Mexican Hot Chocolate (Methods for Iced & Hot)

I’ve been pretty obsessed lately with ingredients that make my brain happy, especially when those ingredients can be put into some of my favorite indulgences, like hot chocolate.

By happy, I mean effectively regulating everything from hormone balance to mood stability. As someone who is prone to depression and anxiety, using nutrition to help me stay centered on those off-days has become my most powerful tool.

I’ve been using a ton of raw cacao, which is a win win as it’s chocolate so the awesomeness of that speaks for itself. It also contains a ton of tryptophan – an amino acid that helps the brain to produce more serotonin.

AKA – the happy hormone.

With the addition of cayenne pepper for a metabolism booster, ceylon cinnamon for blood sugar and blood triglyceride maintenance, sea salt for electrolyte balance, and hemp milk for a protein and calcium boost, this hot chocolate is truly guilt free.

In fact, you should feel guilty by not indulging.

Too hot for hot chocolate? Check out the instructions for the iced method too!

Hot Chocolate Method

For hot chocolate, warm milk in a small saucepan over low heat, whisking constantly until warm.

Whisk in cacao powder until all clumps are mixed in, continue whisking in the rest of the ingredients.

Pour into mug, enjoy.

Using a blender, combine all ingredients until fully mixed. Pour over tall glass with ice.
